The MassMutual team is here to help.

Don’t be mystified if you hear a cheer or two for the Green Bay Packers coming from Massachusetts.

MassMutual and the Packers, you see, have a major connection: Curly Lambeau.

Lambeau, of course, cofounded the Packers in 1919 and was its legendary player-coach through 1949 (hence the Green Bay home venue of Lambeau Field). Less well-known about Lambeau was that he was a MassMutual district sales manager for Wisconsin.

Remember, football back in the day wasn’t the full-time major industry that it is today. Many footballers had other jobs to keep them going in the off-season. Lambeau’s was insurance and he established a MassMutual office in Green Bay in 1930. The Packers were added to the office directory in 1941.

Of course, MassMutual continues to have a major presence in Wisconsin to this day, with about 20 offices representing the company there. On the other hand, MassMutual has a major presence in other areas of the country as well. For instance, the company has a major operation in Phoenix, so the Arizona Cardinals may deserve some support from time to time.

Depending on the schedule and playoff outcomes, of course, if any football team goes on to meet the Patriots, things sometimes get really conflicted at the company’s Springfield, Massachusetts, headquarters and its Boston campus.
